Should Republicans Continue to Block Judicial Appointments?

The White House

There still have been no hearings for Merrick Garland as a Supreme Court justice. His appointment has been blocked by Senate Republicans, specifically by Sen. Charles Grassley, the chair of the Judiciary Committee. More surprising is the large number of judicial appointments that have been held up. While the Supreme Court will hear about 100 cases a hear, lower courts can hear about 350,000 cases. There are numerous cases where judicial vacancies are causing problems for regular people and businesses. Should the Republicans continue holding back appointments hoping the next election helps them, or should they do the work they were elected to do?
